I’ve just realised it’s been some time since I wrote my last blog – How time flies when you’re having fun !!
Well this year so far has certainly been full of adventures, and kept me out of trouble. I’ve travelled the county to be trained by some of the country’s finest photography trainers and photographers in their own right. I’ve learnt about newborn photography, wedding photography, portrait photography, commercial photography, lighting, posing, social media and editing. You name it, I’ve been there, I’m all trained out.
It’s been an amazing adventure and I’ve learnt so much which can only mean one thing. I give you, my customer, a much better service at DocB Photography.
One of my highlights so far this year was joining the Guild of Photographers. After only one month of membership, I submitted 21 images to a panel of judges and received the amazing news that I had passed my Panel, and now I am “Qualified” as a “Professional Member of the Guild of Photographers”.
Here are a few of the images presented to the Panel.
I also entered a number of Images to the Guild’s monthly Photographic Competition and I’m proud to say that I have received a number of Bronze Awards over the months. Here are a few of my bronze award winning images.
In May I attended a week’s intensive Wedding refresher training
with three of the Guild’s Master Craftsmen. This was an amazing opportunity
where I learnt so much and made lots of new photographer friends – we now
support one another in a private Facebook Group.
Each day was packed to the gills with business training, posing, editing, photographing, lighting, everything you would need to run a Wedding Photography Business. Here are a few of my favourite images from the event.
I am currently on a mentoring programme with the amazing award winning photographer and trainer Gary Hill. After just 4 sessions I have learnt so much about lighting – who knew there was so much to know about natural light and studio lighting – how light works, the laws of light, lighting patterns, hair light, accent lights, rules for posing, how the customer feels, contrast ratios, how to apply background light, correct use of reflectors, constructing multi light set ups, the list goes on. It has been truly mind boggling. I still have two sessions left to attend on this programme and I’m so excited about these as we now start to put all this in to practice……...Can you believe we even get homework !!
Being part of this mentoring group has again increased my network of friends and fellow professional photographers. We all support one another in another private Facebook Group. It has been an amazing journey where I have received the support of like-minded professionals and picked up freelance commercial photography through this new network.
I have now professional elinchrom lighting which I can set up in my home studio, or taken out on location. This has transformed my photography – I’m sure you can see from the images below what a difference it makes when you control your lighting, use a light meter and a grey card.
I now carry out freelance commercial photography and have photographed beauty salons, restaurants, food, gin bottles, electric bicycles, caravan parks, art galleries to mention but a few. Here are a few images form some of my recent commercial work.
In June this year I was over the moon to be part of Rock FM’s “Win Your Wedding”. A competition where the six couples who reach the semi-finals compete to raise as much money as they can over a ten day period. The monies go to a fabulous charity “Cash for Kids” who respond to the needs of children in our communities so they can live life to the full and realise their individual potential. All monies raised stays within the community where it was raised, which is amazing.
The winners Cheryl and Carl raised a whopping £8542.62 . Here are a few images from their Pre-Wedding Photoshoot.
I can't wait to photograph their wedding at Barton Grange later this year.
I hope you enjoy reading about my journey as a Professional Wedding, Commercial and Family Portrait Photographer. It’s been a fantastic adventure, I’ve made some amazing supportive friends for life. I will continue to learn so that I give you, my customers, the best service possible at DocB Photography. I feel so privileged and lucky to work in a profession that was once just a hobby, a dream, but now a reality.
