Lockdown Britain, outdoor photoshoots, the new normal.

Outdoor Family photos

Well who could have guessed how 2020 would turn out. My 2020 Business Diary has been the least used item of Business stationery, and I’ve had to learn how to cut hair – well who would have thought!

My business, like others has been turned upside down with wedding postponements dropping into my email inbox day after day. I’ve closed my studio due to Government Guidelines, and it may not open again this year if the 2 meter rule remains inforce.

So, every photographer in the land has had to hang up their cameras, and we can’t take photos. Well, it doesn’t have to be this way, as we learn to adapt and find new ways of working.

I have a few long photography lenses, and the weather has been exceptionally sunny and dry (for a change). I’ve taken the opportunity to take outdoor family photographs from a distance, without breaking any of the Governments social distancing rules.

What is happening in the world right now is tragic, but it will be part of our history, and children will look back on this time as the year their parents stayed at home with them, spending more time as a family, they couldn’t play with their friends and everyone started wearing masks. It’s only right that we try to document this and capture these moments however difficult they are at the moment. This will be our history.

During the lockdown period I received a few requests to take family “door step” photos. These started to become popular early on in the lockdown period with photographers utilising their daily hour exercise walk to capture pictures of neighbours, and scenes as everyone stood on their doorsteps and clapped for the NHS, Care and Key Workers.

So, It doesn’t have to be this way, outdoor family photos will become the new norm. Don’t miss out on those opportunities to capture newborn babies, school leavers and graduations, significant birthdays, anniversaries, cake smash, the list is endless. All of these can be done in the comfort of your own home as the Government restrictions start to ease.
Here are a few examples of what can be done during lockdown.
