Frequently asked questions

Hands up if you’ve bought a fancy looking camera, but then not known how to use it. The easiest thing to do is turn the dial to "Auto", then hey presto, you're off, you’re a "photographer". Well, that's fine, I hold my hand up, I used to do this. However, your camera will control ALL the contents of your photographs and select the settings it "thinks" it needs to select to give you the photograph it thinks you want. You will have no control over which settings it selects, or what part of your photograph it focuses on.

Cameras are amazing at creating beautiful pictures, and editing software can take them to the next level, turning them into stunning pieces of art. However, no amount of editing software will help you if your photograph is out of focus, or you have chopped your subject in half. To stand a fighting chance YOU need to be able to control your camera, that's where you use all these buttons and dials.

Why Bitesize?
Well, if you are serious about taking better pictures, there is a lot to learn. Bitesize will allow you to learn at your own pace. Learn about one small element then go away and practice. If you want to learn more, you can come back for another Bitesize.

Why DocB?
No need to go to college, or sit in a classroom with perhaps 10 other people who are all wanting different things, learning at different paces. No need to feel silly asking questions in front of others. I will come to you, and you can learn in the comfort of your own home, or we can meet on location somewhere.

Do I have any qualifications?
I have a BTEC (Distinction) in Digital Photography and Qualified with the Guild of Professional Photographers. I specialise in Nikon equipment, but able to help with other makes of DSLR cameras. Previously I have written training material and delivered training sessions to Government employees. I was a qualified Archery Coach, teaching beginners the fundamentals of archery. I was a trained National Observer with the Institute of Advanced Motorcyclists (IAM) and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), mentoring motorcycle riders through 1 - 2 - 1 sessions prior to them taking their Advanced Motorcycle Test.

How much will a Bitesize cost?
One Bitesize, one to one session, of two hours will cost you £99.00. I would ask for a small contribution toward petrol costs if I need to travel outside of Rossendale.
